  • The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Ayurveda is the highest academic degree in the field of Ayurveda, designed for advanced research and in-depth study of Ayurvedic principles, practices, and allied sciences. The program focuses on developing research scholars, academicians, and experts who can contribute to the modernization, validation, and global recognition of Ayurveda.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. in Ayurveda

To apply for admission to the Ph.D. in Ayurveda program, candidates must fulfill the following conditions:

  1. Educational Qualification

    • The candidate must have completed a Postgraduate Degree (MD/MS in Ayurveda) in the concerned subject from a recognized university/institution.

    • Candidates with a postgraduate degree in Ayurveda-related/allied sciences (such as Ayurveda Pharmacy, Medicinal Plants, Ayurveda Biology, etc.) may also be considered as per university norms.

  2. Minimum Marks Requirement

    • A minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in the postgraduate examination is required.

    • For SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwD candidates, a relaxation of 5% (i.e., minimum 50% marks) is applicable as per government rules.

  3. Entrance Examination

    • Admission is generally based on a Ph.D. entrance test conducted by the university (covering Research Methodology, Ayurveda Samhitas, Clinical and Non-clinical subjects, etc.).

    • Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, AYUSH-NET, or equivalent exams may be exempted from the entrance test, depending on university regulations.

  4. Interview/Presentation

    • Shortlisted candidates must appear for an interview and/or presentation of their research proposal before the Ph.D. committee.

  5. Other Requirements

    • The candidate must be registered with the respective State/CCIM (NCISM) board as a practitioner (where applicable).

    • Must meet any additional criteria prescribed by the admitting university/college.

Admission Procedure

Admission to the Ph.D. in Ayurveda program is generally through a national or state-level entrance examination conducted by universities or central bodies like CCRAS/AYUSH. Candidates who qualify the entrance test are shortlisted for a personal interview or viva-voce, where their research aptitude and subject knowledge are assessed. Final admission is granted based on merit, availability of seats, reservation norms, and university guidelines.

  • PwD Certificate (if applicable, as per prescribed format).

  • Domicile Certificate (for state quota seats).

  • Passport Size Photographs (recent, same as used in application form).

  • Bond/Undertaking (if required) by the concerned university/college.
