Introduction:
Dravyaguna Vigyana is the branch of Ayurveda that deals with the detailed study of medicinal plants and their properties, actions, and therapeutic uses. It is considered the Ayurvedic equivalent of Pharmacology and Materia Medica in modern medicine.
The subject covers identification, classification, collection, preservation, and application of medicinal herbs, along with their effects on Dosha, Dhatu, and Mala. Students learn both classical Ayurvedic principles and modern botanical/pharmacological perspectives. Through Dravyaguna, one gains knowledge of how natural substances act on the human body and how they can be used in prevention and treatment of diseases.
